What does ‘Speciality Coffee’ mean?

Coffees are only deemed special if they receive a Quality Score of more than 80 from the Speciality Coffee Association of America (SCAA). The Quality Score is a scale of 100 judged on a variety of factors including sweetness, acidity, balance, mouthfeel, and flavour. Urban Baristas only ever buys beans that score a minimum of 82 on this scale, with the majority rating 86 and above.


What's the best-before on your coffee? How long will it stay fresh?

Fresh coffee is the best - so we send it out within 7 days of roasting, to get you brewing up only the freshest and best every time!

Because our coffee has nothing added to it and nothing taken away, there are no preservatives or additives that keep the coffee fresher for longer than its natural taste. We recommend you enjoy your coffee within 6 weeks of the roast for ground coffee, or within 2 months for wholebean. Beyond these dates, your coffee won’t go bad but it will grow stale and lose its fresh flavourings. You can check when your Urban coffee was roasted by the ‘Roasted on’ date written on the label of each bag.

How should I store my coffee?

After you open your fresh bag of coffee, you will need to keep it in its packet or store it in an airtight jar. This should be left in a cool, dark place, such as your kitchen cupboard.

We do not recommend storing your coffee in the fridge. Because the coffee is fresh, moving it in and out of the cold will cause condensation to form, which damages the coffee.


I don’t like the coffee I received, what should I do?

If you find you aren’t enjoying your coffee, please let us know as soon as you can by submitting an email to Our Customer support team will be happy to chat about what you’re looking for in a coffee (dark roast, certain tasting notes, acidity) and can suggest other coffees that are more suited to your taste.


Are your bags recyclable?

Our bags are made from a mixture of materials that are recyclable on their own, but we recommend that our customers check with their local council and separate the components accordingly for recycling.

Our bags consist of the following:

Paper, which is recycled by your local council.

Aluminium, which is recycled by your local council.

Polyethylene and EVOHPE, which are collected by about 92% of councils. Please check if your council recycles these materials. 


How do I change my plan?

When you log into your account on a PC, click on ‘Manage Subscriptions’ (this should appear on the right-hand side of your screen) > ‘Amend’ > ‘Change’ (click this beside any of your preferences). That’s it! After doing this, any changes you make will take effect for your next scheduled order.


How do I cancel my plan?

We are sorry you want to cancel! Please contact us at with more information as to why you wish to cancel and we will take care of the rest for you!


When will I get my delivery?

We ship Monday to Friday 8 am - 2 pm. If your order was placed after these hours you can expect your order to be shipped the next working day.

(Orders placed after 1:30 pm on a Friday will be shipped the following week, on the next working day)


What happens once I confirm and pay for my order?

Once you place your order, our roastery team are notified and get it ready for sending out to you. It’s then shipped to you via Royal Mail and should arrive in the next 1-2 working days.

If you are on our subscription plan, we will send out your coffee via Royal Mail 2nd Class which means you can expect delivery within 2-3 working days.

We ship Monday to Thursday 8 am - 2 pm. If your order is placed after these hours you can expect it to be shipped the next working day.

Do you ship internationally?

Unfortunately, we can only deliver to UK addresses (BFPO included) at the moment. If you are based at a BFPO address, our deliveries will usually reach you within 10 days of dispatch.
