It all started when...
Urban Baristas was founded in June 2016 by Huw Wardrope and Jono Bowman, two aussie guys that got tired of the finance industry and the bad chain coffees they were drinking and decided to invest their time in something they loved but struggled to find in London: great antipodean coffee.
Their journey started with a little kiosk located in North London with the aim of serving specialty coffee to the London commuter.
The concept gradually grew and in 2017 a new partner, Richard Klin, came on board and a new shop was opened in Wapping. The Wapping branch design was influenced by the Nordic architecture and this new shop took the coffee offering one step further by incorporating a wider selection of non-dairy milk alternatives and non-coffee based healthy drinks such as Matcha, Turmeric, Beetroot (velvet) and Charcoal Lattes. It also introduced a wider food menu with gourmet toasties and healthy breakfast pots, to be appreciated in a cool, design-led place where people want to stop not just for coffee, but to be seen and to showcase their lifestyle on social media.
Urban Baristas strive to serve carefully crafted artisan coffee in a trendy, contemporary environment, with a menu of fresh and light fare (said avo on toast) and charming service (“G’day, mate!”).
By the end of 2017 Urban Baristas opened a new shop in Waterloo, a real hole in the wall with the same design approach of Wapping. In the beginning of 2018 we are opening our flagship in the cool hub of Queensway (west London) where we will focus on offering a wider brunch menu, also inspired in the Australian brunch scene.
